Supergirl season 2 has cast the younger sister of Lex Luthor, Lena.
Katie McGrath, well known for her work on Merlin, will play Lena Luthor, reports TVLine. The role will be recurring.
Lena is described as “[b]eautiful, powerful, and enigmatic.” She comes to National City shortly after her brother goes to prison in search of a fresh start. To that end, Lena will act as CEO of Luthor Corp, her family’s tech company whose image has been affected by her brother’s actions. Her goal is to “re-brand the empire as a force for good.”
Though she wants to “be seen as her own person” rather than an extension of her brother, Kara “is drawn into Lena’s sphere and must determine if she is friend or foe.”
In the DC Comics, there are multiple interpretations of Lena. In the Silver Age, Lex left home when she was young and her parents changed their names before telling Lena her brother had been killed. She spent many years believing that she didn’t have a brother before learning the truth. In this incarnation, she also had psychic abilities. In the New 52, meanwhile, Lena became ill when Lex was 17 and became paraplegic. Lex failed in his efforts to heal her and kept her hidden away at LexCorp.
Supergirl season 2 premieres Monday, October 10 at 8:00 p.m. ET on The CW.
